The Mercenaries of Uldoon Trail
For years, rumors of war and death have permeated the local inns and pubs. Strange cults, unholy alliances, terrible monsters, deaths, and sorrows seem to be the main themes of the stories these days. Fortunately, the towns folk have been able to ignore most of these strange stories as these past few years have provided great amounts of wealth and opportunity. Peasants have money for better clothes. Food has never been more available. Nobles have been wearing exquisite ceremonial armor. Centers of learning are increasing and there are a couple novice wizards that can be found in the markets. The towns and cities in the south have been growing as more and more people move away from their farms. The steady growth and prosperity has led to what is now being called the Boom years.
As for those dark rumors, perhaps it is the greed from the North that brings such stories closer to otherwise peaceful regions. It is hard to say as the evil is so peripheral and only those looking for it seem to find it. With that being said, whispers among the militiamen of the South and those from Baldur’s Gate seem to indicate that the situation is dire. However, the Sword Coast is far from defenseless. Powerful factions are ready to rise up and more funding is spent on arms to prepare for whatever comes.
Yet, still the shadow grows.
As a result militias have started to grow. The Boom years have been particularly good to the small town of Greenest. The town has hired sell-swords to guard the roads and keep them free from bandits so that trade can flourish between Iriabor and Greenest. These sell swords call themselves The Mercenaries of Uldoon Trail. They too have heard stories of nameless evils and preparations for war.
So far the roads have been safe and clear. But in war, no place is safe.
